University Advancement Reports

Challenge

The client's Office of Advancement needed its Endowment Report and a Broad-Based Annual Impact Report built as long-scroll web publications inside its existing Drupal 10 giving site. The client supplied the designs. The reports had to meet WCAG 2.1 AA, include interactive charts, print cleanly to PDF, and let the client's editors publish each year's report without a developer. Production was managed by the client's own hosting vendor.

The
Solution

As sole developer, I built two custom Drupal modules: a report builder and a module that fits the reports into the giving site's theme. I created 35 paragraph types, a Report content type and an archive for past reports, Chart.js bar, line and donut charts with editor-controlled colours, and print and PDF styling. I rebuilt the donut chart so hover and keyboard focus work both ways between the chart and its accordion. I kept all configuration in code through numbered update hooks, moved the environment to GitHub with a README so another developer could join, and audited production against the repository to find what was out of date.

The
Result

The Endowment Report is live, and the Broad-Based report is launching. The client's editors can now build and archive annual reports themselves, with accessible, interactive charts.
